Instructional Leadership Academy:
Active Learning by Design

This is a two-day compressed seminar/workshop on course design and management. If enrollment exceeds available slots, qualified applicants will be accepted on a first come-first served basis. Participants who complete all requirements of this project will have access to $500 in discretionary funding.

ITLAL is seeking full-time faculty members to take leadership in exploring, testing and adopting the latest best practices in undergraduate teaching and learning. This Academy allows faculty members to develop or revise courses in order to “teach” less while students learn more, regardless of class size. New course designs will enhance student engagement, performance, motivation, and critical thinking. Applicants will demonstrate a willingness to experiment with research-supported classroom initiatives and to collaborate with ITLAL over the Spring Semester. December 4, 2009 Review of applications begins
December 18, 2009 Confirmation from ITLAL that your objectives match the goals of this academy
Week of January 4, 2010 Submit (electronically or by mail) course syllabus and other course materials to help staff in their preparation
January 12 & 14, 2010 Two-day seminar, 9 AM – 3PM, lunch included. There will be a substantive homework assignment to be done before the first meeting and between the two meetings.
January 19, 2010 Revised syllabus and other evidence due, showing the changes made for the course
Spring Semester 2010 Review of revised course materials, collection of student data and classroom observation
Access to individual consultation as needed
